May 2025 Wellness Resources

When we find ourselves in a cultural context where workaholism is normalized and even celebrated, it can be hard to take a step back and reorient our senses and perspectives around our own needs and desires. Especially as Black women in a society that consistently favors Whiteness and maleness, we have to be intentional in order to quiet the noise around us, prioritize ourselves, and determine what we personally want to normalize and practice in our own daily lives.

For generations, dominant narratives have projected expectations of caretaking and labor onto Black women. We’re invested in the counternarrative that elevates the importance of Black women taking care of ourselves. As BlackFemaleProject Director of Programs, Dr. E’rika Chambers, reminds us in this month’s wellness calendar quote, we have the option to center our rest and well-being. And in fact, we must center our rest and well-being. Our lives depend on it, and our collective future needs us! We hope you’ll make use of May wellness resources to reinforce your ability to commit to your own rest and wellness.
