Consider who you would be if you gave yourself the space to explore, find yourself, and make mistakes freely. This December, try holding space for practice, for building a process, and give yourself the grace to make mistakes.
We invite you to reflect on where you feel most seen and supported. Practice leaning into those circles of trust and gratitude, and remember: being in community with one another is not just healing work—it’s revolutionary.
Yes, our time on this planet is limited, and it’s important that we make use of it. In order to show up for ourselves or anyone else, though, it’s vital that we create opportunities for rest, relaxation, and restoration. Our joy and our imagination rely on it.
Our ancestors left behind all sorts of literature and other resources that can help us find our way through difficult moments, and our living elders so often make themselves available to provide insights they’ve acquired along their own journeys. As you head into September, consider the ways in which you tap into sources of wisdom and how you might return the favor by sharing your wisdom with others.
Since the birth of BlackFemaleProject in 2014, we’ve seen example after example of the benefit to be gained from choosing to support one another rather than compete. We continue to believe in and experience the power of collaboration, community, and cooperation.
[…] Despite the overwhelming value placed on individual success, we at BlackFemaleProject are committed to collective wellness. We consistently see how powerful it is to join forces and build momentum together.
Capitalism thrives on high speed, but if we can disconnect from the 24 hour news cycle and the stream of ads that constantly confronts us, we’ll see that nature models something different for us—a slower pace and a balance of energies.
Especially as Black women in a society that consistently favors Whiteness and maleness, we have to be intentional in order to quiet the noise around us, prioritize ourselves, and determine what we personally want to normalize and practice in our own daily lives.
Just like a flower grows from seed to bloom, many of us also have to journey before being ready to share our brilliance and beauty with the world. And just like the flowers blooming around us this time of year, each of us has a uniqueness that only we possess.
Many of us have experienced the remarkable impact of storytelling in our own lives. Whether it happens through literature, theater, or good old-fashioned conversation, resonant and reflective storytelling can unlock and unleash untapped power and potential.
Black women’s relationship to caretaking is a complex one. We’re often thought of as reliable, loving, supportive, and nurturing—all admirable qualities. But when and how are we making time to apply these qualities to ensure that we care for ourselves? After all, we can only show up for others if and when we’re well enough to do so.
The transition from one year into the next is a great time to take stock of what we’re feeling good about and what might benefit from some rethinking. Some people might say that we attract what we’re ready for; others might break it down through the lens of energy and frequencies. Regardless of personal perspectives, all kinds of literature and research affirms and elevates the power of mindset. If we want an abundant, successful 2025, we have to first envision that abundance and success and trust that it’s coming our way.
