Happy International Black Women’s History Month! Created in 2016 by tech consultant Sha Battle, the holiday is a celebration of the achievements, history, and contributions of Black women in society. As an organization founded and run by Black women, BlackFemaleProject would like to take a moment to acknowledge and appreciate the fearless women who came before us. From bell hooks and Angela Davis to Grace Jones and Eartha Kitt, these icons and trailblazers have paved the way for Black women today.
In the spirit of the month, we invite you—beautiful Black woman—to acknowledge and celebrate your own achievements and how far you’ve come. Like a caterpillar transitioning into a butterfly, our lives are one long journey of transformation, constantly learning and changing from year to year. By slowing down and noticing the stage of our life cycle that we’re in—whether we’re a young caterpillar or graceful butterfly—we can be all the more appreciative of our accomplishments.
This April, celebrate not only the influential Black women in your life. Make room to celebrate yourself, regardless of where you are in your journey.
