FEBRUARY 2026 Wellness Resources
February: the season of love. Valentine’s Day is a holiday of desire, centered around the performance of romance and relationships with others. As women, we may find ourselves in an obsessive state, chasing this idea of “love” that our capitalist society has sold to us. Finding a romantic partner becomes the end goal, secondary to other important aspects of life, such as family, friends, and personal growth.
In her seminal work, “All About Love: New Visions”, bell hooks defines love as “the will to extend one’s self for the purpose of nurturing one’s own or another’s spiritual growth.” Throughout the book, she emphasizes that our choice to love will liberate ourselves and others, a concept that we believe here at BlackFemaleProject. In our work, love is at the center of our work. We operate from a loving place to create spaces, curate stories, and listen intently to Black women in our community.
The practice of self-love in our lives builds our capacity for not only treating ourselves better but also properly giving and receiving the love that we deserve. By choosing to nurture ourselves, we develop skills in boundary setting, emotional regulation, self-awareness, empathy, and so much more. The journey to deepening external relationships is futile without a love of ourselves. Or as Cathia Walters, a member of our community, says, “In loving me, then I can love you.”
This February, we’ve curated a series of resources to help you reclaim your power with self-love, fall more in love with yourself, and fill your cup with care and affection. We invite you to watch one of the videos below, listen to the podcasts, and reflect on how you can bring more love into your life this month.

What are three things that you love about yourself?
When was a time in your life that you felt truly loved? Who was there/what was happening?
