Tanya M. Diggs

What is your industry or area of expertise?

I’m a connector. I’ve worked in marketing, in branding, and for ad agencies. I’ve led PR teams and I've led experiential teams that do events.

Why do you believe in the mission of BlackFemaleProject?

I think Black people in general need mentors within their work environment, whether you work in corporate or are an entrepreneur. It’s hard because there are few of us in that environment and sometimes we’re difficult to find, so building those relationships is very important. And that’s the significance of BlackFemaleProject: to help us get into this environment and be mentally healthy.

What brought you to BlackFemaleProject?

Precious was looking for a Black-owned PR firm in LA. So she reached out to someone who is a former client of Going Public PR, and they connected us. And in the true collaborative fashion that Precious works in, she connected us to another client. Then three or four of our clients were all coming to us from Precious’ recommendations. When she told us about what BlackFemaleProject was, we were immediately like, “What can we do? How can we be involved?”

How has BlackFemaleProject impacted you personally?

I think just listening to, hearing from, and being a part of conversations with other Black women from various industries and backgrounds. After we get off those calls, it causes us to sit back and think about our own situation and how we approach clients. The impact has been the professionalism—just the ability to gain further knowledge and in some ways validate or question some of the things we may be thinking about within our own entities.

What motivated you to join the board of BlackFemaleProject?

Fortunately, most of our clients come to us by referral. About three years ago, a former client referred us to Precious. The synergy was great, and we hit it off immediately. A key to our budding relationships is that we always end our conversations with, "How can we help you?" And that's how we came to be advisors.

What BlackFemaleProject content or offering have you found most resonant?

I have my wellness calendar here. I keep this close by. The fact that it’s bite-sized information that is a reminder of what we can do and things we should be thinking about, that’s an inspiration.
